Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration recently announced that the project involving the computerisation of land records in the capital city was progressing according to schedule, a news source reported. As per the officials concerned, the venture comprises of three components; data entry, software, and human resource.

ICT officials revealed that the procurement of the software for the project was at an advanced stage, and they expected the purchase to be confirmed soon. They added that once upgraded, the new system would ensure the issuance of copies of records (Fard), recording mutations (Intiqaal), and correction of the records (Fard Badar).
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat stated that the digitisation of the government’s system would help eradicate corrupt practices involved in the manual procedures. He added that the ICT had taken a number of measures in this regard; including the computerisation of land revenue records of rural areas in the city.
Officials concerned revealed that the project plan included hiring patwaris with bachelor degrees for smooth functioning of the revenue departments. Furthermore, the decision has been made to update the ‘record of right of land’ after every four years, and to meet the shortage of patwaris.

In a recent development, the department concerned had revealed that Islamabad’s land records would become largely computerised within the coming six months. As per officials, this project would not only make service delivery more efficient; but also empower women through protection of their inheritance rights and facilitation of their access to land records.
