Islamabad: The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has announced the launch of a Sightseeing Double-Decker Bus Service in Islamabad, set to commence in January 2025. The initiative, a joint venture between PTDC and the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), aims to enhance tourism in the capital city by offering guided tours of its key landmarks and monuments.
The announcement was made by PTDC Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana during a briefing session with tourism industry stakeholders on Wednesday. Representatives from major hotels in Islamabad, along with officials from TDCP, were also present at the session.

Mr. Rana shared that the double-decker bus service will provide visitors with a unique way to explore Islamabad’s tourist attractions. The guided tours will operate twice daily and include pick-and-drop services from all major hotels in the city.
In a second phase, PTDC, in collaboration with the private sector, plans to expand the service to weekend tours of nearby historic and cultural sites. Destinations like Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Katas Raj Temples, Kallar Kahar, Khewra Salt Mines, Takht-e-Bahi, Murree, Patriata, and Peshawar are expected to be included in these tours.
“This eco-friendly and modern double-decker bus service is a landmark initiative that will boost Islamabad’s appeal as a prime tourist destination,” said Mr. Rana. He emphasized the government’s commitment to making tourism a key driver of economic growth and promoting Pakistan’s image internationally.

The PTDC has also developed an integrated tourism plan for Islamabad, focusing on collaborative efforts between public and private stakeholders to position the capital as the gateway to tourism in Pakistan.
This new venture aligns with ongoing efforts to revitalize tourism in the country, offering visitors and residents an engaging and sustainable way to experience Islamabad’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
