Islamabad: A freight train service was launched on Tuesday (December 21) to seamlessly connect and boost trade between Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey, according to news sources.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati inaugurated the train service. The inauguration event was attended by ambassadors of Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
As per the details, the freight train service will improve the lives and economies of Economic Cooperation Organization member states. The said service will maximise economic efficiency and decrease the cost of doing business.
Talking about the train service, Railways Minister Swati stated that the freight train is an important milestone in the history of Pakistan. He added that the service will create new business opportunities and will promote connectivity in the region, which stands to strengthen the ties between countries. He went on to say that the passenger train service will start soon as well.

PM’s adviser Dawood disclosed that regional connectivity is a vital pillar of the Strategic Trade Policy framework. According to a senior official of the railway, the freight train will operate on Tuesday every week. Initially, the train will have nine wagons.
