Islamabad: The federal government has reportedly decided to notify charge of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to the mayor of Islamabad, a news source reported. As per officials, the executive took this decision following various discussions pertaining to the civic agency’s proposed overhaul.

Previously, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had ordered the authorities concerned to present a detailed plan on ways to incorporate an effective corporate governance model into the CDA for this purpose.
Adviser to the PM on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Hussain, along with several representatives of the CDA and the interior ministry, had approved in principle the said draft during a meeting. The attendees were informed that the aim was to implement an improved system of management for the authority within a time frame of three months. An interim management will be established to transition into the new laws.

The changes proposed include hiring a new chief executive of the CDA from the private sector through advertisements – in pursuance of the government’s efforts aimed at the implementation of a transparent selection process. CDA management and policy will be kept separate to facilitate improvement in the authority’s performance.
