Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday launched a Spring Tree Plantation drive by inaugurating Islamabad’s first-ever Miyawaki forest reserve at Shakarparian hills, according to news sources.

He said that forestation is a ‘lifesaver for future of Pakistan’ and that the government is developing green areas to mitigate the effects of climate change. He further stated Pakistan is ranked among top 10 countries vulnerable to climate change. He also expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions of climate in metropolises like Lahore and Peshawar.

According to reports, 20 sites in Islamabad have been selected to be developed on Miyawaki method – which is also called Potted Seedling Method.
Earlier, the PM in his address explained the Miyawaki method: ‘I have launched urban forestry on the lines of Miyawaki technique in Japan where the trees grow 10 times faster and 30 times denser and it is the best way to fight pollution.’
