Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday stated that the federal capital would become the first city in the country to operate an all-electric public transport, a news source reported.

Speaking at a press conference, Chaudhry said that the federal government would import 120 electric buses before the end of 2020. He added that the local manufacturing of electric buses would begin in 2021.
Earlier during a session with the local media, the minister said that the government would establish a value chain for electric transport in Pakistan. He added that the battery bus service would become operational before 2020 ended.

Chaudhry highlighted that the venture of running all-electric public transport and other electric vehicle initiatives would boost economic growth. He added that these would also create new employment opportunities, along with serving as a significant development for fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of a clean and green Pakistan.
