Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in collaboration with Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), is developing Islamabad’s largest Miyawaki forest in Sector H-12, news sources reported on October 5.

The said Miyawaki forest is planted on 17 acres of land with 20,000 large-sized seedlings of various species, with additional saplings to be planted soon. CDA Chairman Usman Younis and Managing Director Mari Petroleum Faheem Haider inaugurated the Miyawaki forest. On the occasion, the chairman stated that the forest is a significant addition to Islamabad’s scenery and would improve the city’s ecosystem, making it healthier. He stated that the woodland is the largest in the city and that it needed new and upgraded security systems. He went on to say that the initiative is a significant step toward a better, healthier environment for the country.

It is worth noting that the government launched the Miyawaki Forest Project in 2020, with plans to inaugurate it in each major metropolitan city. The project is envisioned as a long-term deterrent to rising pollution and the detrimental impacts of climate change.
