Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Divisional Commissioner (DC) Noorul Amin Mengal has sought approval from the chief minister of Punjab to form a joint administration board for the twin cities, news sources reported on July 22. The summary was sent under section 4(C) of the Punjab Civil Administration Act, 2017, to facilitate and improve coordination between the two administrative units.

According to reports, the joint board would take up issues related to law and order, traffic control, public transportation, encroachments, and property delineation in the twin cities’ border zones. According to the summary, the joint board is required for effective resource and population management in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It was also indicated that the board will most likely include 20 members and will be co-chaired by the DCs of the two divisions.

According to the proposal, the joint board will hold monthly and rotational meetings with nominated members from the two divisions. Similarly, to effectively coordinate and implement the meeting decisions, board secretaries will keep meetings’ minutes and record and ensure that the decisions are implemented within the specified timeframes.
