Lahore: The irrigation department has agreed to provide 100 cusecs of water from a canal in Batapur – a news source reported.
WASA previously asked the department to provide water from the Bambawala-Ravi-Bedian (BRB) canal. The agency said that this move would reduce the total cost of pipe installations.

The department had earlier selected a canal point located near the river crossing for the purpose. However, several experts suggested using Batapur point, as it would be more economically feasible.
WASA plans to set up a huge water treatment plant near the canal. The scheme aims to ensure provision of clean drinking water through the underground pipes network. Currently, water is delivered through tube wells and pumps.

Other planned mega projects include three wastewater treatment plants. The provincial government will release funds for these projects following approval from the concerned departments.
The objective behind launching these initiatives is to prevent depletion of the water table. Initially, residents of north-east Lahore will be supplied with treated water.
