For identifying the culprits, the department will launch an inquiry in collaboration with its field staff deployed throughout Gujranwala Region. Reportedly, the stolen water from canals and water channels is supplied to influential landowners. The practice deprive smaller farmers and landowners from the much-needed water supply for their crops. The deprived farmers are instead forced to install tube wells at their land, which causes additional problems with maintaining underground water table.
