Lahore: Major irregularities have been discovered in 70% of commercial plazas located in several cities of Punjab, reported a news source. Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Sahiwal, and Rahim Yar Khan are among the cities that feature these illegal constructions.
Similar irregularities were also spotted in several commercial buildings in the Gulberg and Garden Town areas – as well as those situated on Mall Road.
The startling facts were shared in a report prepared by concerned departments on the status of commercial buildings in the province. The document revealed that up to 70% of the commercial buildings had been constructed without map approvals. For constructions with approved plans, several violations of building bylaws were identified. It was also discovered that up to 30% of these commercial buildings had forged NOCs.
The report further detailed that in 45% of the commercial plazas, parking spaces had been sold as shops. In addition to this, almost 90% of the buildings in the province do not presently have firefighting arrangements in place. The document also included details on over 100 commercial buildings that were constructed illegally in the old quarters of Lahore.
