Peshawar: The governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Iran have agreed to set up a joint task force to identify potential investment areas and improve trade relations between their two turfs, according to news sources.
This announcement was made in a meeting between KP Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan and Outgoing Iranian Consul General Muhammad Baqir Beigi at the CM’s residence on Tuesday.
The CM said that KP (especially Peshawar) would soon become a hub of regional trade and investment activity. He also said that the opening of the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham was intended to promote trade ties with neighbouring and regional countries.

He said there was tremendous trade potential in provincial hydropower, mines and mineral sectors. He said that the provincial executive took measures and introduced legal reforms to promote bilateral trade and boost the economies of all countries involved.

In response, Consul General Beigi said that Iran was eager to invest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and intended to facilitate bilateral cooperation in banking, trade and other investment sectors.
