Islamabad: Iran Ambassador to Pakistan Syed Muhammad Ali Hussaini has said that there is an urgent need for Pakistan and Iran to strengthen their bilateral trade relations, news sources reported on December 1.

The ambassador made these remarks while speaking to a delegation from the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) that commerce between Pakistan and Iran, with a particular focus on Balochistan, will have long-term positive effects on the economy. In this respect, he stated that Iran will soon deploy officials at the Bazarcha business terminal in Taftan to promote commercial activity between the two countries and efforts were also being made to construct border markets and reduce barriers to industrial activities.

He stated that Pakistan is an important regional partner for Iran, with a particular emphasis on Balochistan. He further stated that commerce between Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan will provide much-needed stability to the region while also creating employment. On the occasion, QCCI President Haji Abdullah Achakzai stated that commerce between the two countries is critical and that all efforts would be made to strengthen it further.

It is worth noting that Pakistan and Iran are already collaborating on a barter trading system to swap food and fuel. Pakistan has a sizable market for Iranian dry food and fuel, whereas Iran is a significant recipient of Pakistan’s wheat and fabric.
