Islamabad: The investors of Bin Qasim Industrial Park (BQIP) have requested the federal government to provide the full round of residential amenities promised for the society, a news source reported. BQIP is a designated special economic zone (SEZ). The petitioners maintain that more investments cannot be attracted unless the promises made to existing investors go unfulfilled.
A letter to this effect was sent to the Board of Investment (BOI) and the Ministry of Industries and Production (MOIP) by five companies with stakes in BQIP. These companies have invested a total of PKR 35 billion in the zone.
The letter provides notification of the delays faced by the companies in starting completed plants, since the SEZ still lacks several utility services.
Speaking on the matter, the CEO of Tecno Autoglass Ltd, a signatory of the letter, said that there is no sewerage line at present. Moreover, no work has been done for establishing a water treatment plan. He contended that there are currently no arrangements for waste water disposal for the ‘thousands of people’ scheduled to start work in the zone soon.
