Islamabad: The K2 base camp area recently received internet facilities and phone signals after the installation of the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in Gilgit-Baltistan — with the service having been made operational by the Special Communication Organization (SCO), according to news sources. This is considered to be a significant development, as it will allow mountaineers and trekking groups to stay connected with their families, and to call for assistance in case of emergencies.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and telecom operators have been working to improve telecommunication services in areas full of tourism potential, and this development is also expected to help with weather monitoring and promoting adventure tourism.

The 4G BTS has been installed in Concordia, which has been renamed as Ali Sadpara in the loving memory of the lost mountaineer. The project is part of the Gilgit Baltistan Development Package that was introduced by the incumbent government, whereas the 4G BTS was launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan himself.
