Rawalpindi: The Punjab Planning and Development (P&D) department has decided to hire an international consultancy firm for the readjustment of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR), according to news published in the national dailies on November 21.

As per the details, the National Highway Authority (NHA) raised some objections to the design and traffic management of the project. The authorities concerned are considering modifying the design of the road by constructing a link road, from Fateh Jhang to Sangjani. The news source mentioned that third-party valuation was essential through international bidding. It was disclosed that the work on the project will be started after the realignment of RRR.
The officials stated that the international consultant firm will submit recommendations related to modifications of the design and changes in the route. After that, the work will be started on the stalled RRR project. The news source mentioned that the contract was awarded to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for the construction of the 38.3-kilometre-long RRR, from Rawat to Thalian. Under the contract, the FWO must complete the work on the RRR project within two years.

Moreover, it was revealed that if the link road is approved, the link road within the limits of Rawalpindi will be constructed by the Punjab government while the road portion falling under the jurisdiction of Islamabad will be constructed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
