Lahore: The Punjab government has introduced an agricultural credit scheme for small farmers who own up to 50 acres of arable land, according to a publication.

Under the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), the Agriculture Department will provide interest-free loans to farmers owning 25 acres of arable land. Similarly, farmers owning up to 50 acres of land will be issued loans at low mark-up rates.
The rules make it mandatory for farmers to get their record digitised at the land records centres concerned. The department will only issue loans to those individuals who have fulfilled necessary requirements.

Other features include:
- Loan amount of PKR 30,000 per acre for Rabi crop harvesters
- Loan amount of PKR 40,000 per acre for Kharif crop harvesters
- Farmers owning up to five acres will be issued loans on a priority basis
Applicants can avail this credit facility from the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) or Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).
