Gujrat: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Khurram Shehzad has sought the installation of fire safety equipment in 63 buildings situated in the city within a time frame of 30 days, a news source reported. To this effect, he has ordered the officials concerned to issue notices to the owners of these high-rises.

The buildings found lacking fire safety equipment are located near kacheri. The DC took notice of the situation and ordered stern action against the owners failing to meet the given deadline; during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC). The meeting was attending by important officials who also received a briefing from the DDMC officer.

The participants discussed measures to deal with climatic catastrophes during the coming monsoon season. Further, they discussed measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
Giving directives regarding the provision of firefighting arrangements in buildings, the DC directed his staff to seal the buildings in case of non-compliance – following the deadline’s expiry. Moreover, he directed the officials concerned to impose a PKR 100,000 fine on violators.
