Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to formulate an economic plan for the development of urban infrastructure in the province; with new projects slated to be completed under the oversight of the Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPPA), a news source reported on Sunday (July 5). The directives in this regard came from Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar.

As per the details available, the government will invite international bidders for the development of these projects. It is for this purpose that the CM directed the authorities concerned to explore the potential benefits of such partnerships.

In addition, CM Buzdar directed the relevant officials to expedite work on the preparation of a feasibility study to construct a water treatment plant in Rawalpindi. He further announced that the PKR 61 billion worth Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project would be completed under the private-public partnership model. In this regard, he directed the departments concerned to immediately settle the matter in order to start the project.

As per the CM, 10 mega projects estimated to cost PKR 79 billion will be completed under the private-public partnership model. Reportedly, during the Board of PPPPA meeting held in the CM house on Sunday, Buzdar approved the administrative and financial rules of the authority. The meeting also reviewed the pace of ongoing work on development projects that are being completed through a private sector collaboration.
