Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Thursday said that the departments concerned have been directed to develop the infrastructure required to supply 100 million gallons of water to the residents of the twin cities, a news source reported.

As per the publication, he revealed that construction of Islamabad Metro is set to be completed during this month. He also said that support will be extended for K-IV and Karachi Circular Railway project as soon as possible. While the government is also working on Karachi’s Lyari Expressway, Railway Freight Corridor and Northern Bypass projects, while work Green Line Bus Rapid Transport will be initiated in the current year, he added.

The minister said that a scheme is also under consideration to supply an additional 5 million gallons water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, while a committee has been set up to investigate water theft of 2.5 million gallons to improve the water supply infrastructure. At the same time, project feasibility study on Ghazi Barotha project is underway – for which advertisements have been floated for hiring a consultant, he concluded.
