Hyderabad: Sindh Minister for Climate Change and Environment Mohammad Taimur Talpur on Thursday asked the owners of industrial units to establish treatment plants in their factory buildings.

He said that the Supreme Court-mandated commission on water and sanitation in Sindh previously issued a deadline to this effect. He said it was mandatory for the industrialists to comply with the commission’s orders.
The minister directed the officials concerned to collect samples from treated and untreated waste water. A committee will be formed for this purpose, which will submit its report within 15 days.

He informed that there are 311 industrial units in Hyderabad SITE, 103 in Kotri, and 75 in Nooriabad. But most of these industrial units lack effluent treatment plants.

Minister Talpur said he had asked the director general of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to personally monitor all environment-related projects.
