Islamabad: The federal cabinet has tasked the Industries Division with framing Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, according to a news source. As per the publication, there had previously been some uncertainty regarding whether this responsibility would go to the Ministry of Climate Change, or the Industries Division.

Therefore, the cabinet had formed a committee to finalise the EV Policy. This committee was convened by the Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Commerce, and consisted of the Minister for Science and Technology, Advisor to the PM on Climate Change, and Special Assistant to the PM on Petroleum, among others. This committee was tasked with finalising a draft of the EV Policy, however, the Industries and Production Division would submit this draft to the cabinet for approval.

This is in line with Rule 15 (2) of Schedule 11 of the Rules of Business 1972, where formulation of industrial policies was delegated to the Industries and Production Division.
Meanwhile, Honda Atlas Cars and Pak-Suzuki Motor Company have asked for incentives for hybrid cars in the electric and hybrid vehicle policy 2020-25.
