Karachi: The representatives of various industries recently called on the government to support them in setting up waste treatment plants in Karachi, a news source reported. They contended that a majority of small and medium-sized industrial units do not have the resources or the space to establish such facilities.
The representatives were attending an event organised by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry’s (KATI) office to mark the Earth Day.

KATI representative Mohammad Danish Khan, speaking on the occasion, said that KATI is the largest industrial association in the country, and represents around 4,500 industrial units. He also emphasised on the need to collaborate for safeguarding the environment.
Earlier, the Supreme Court-mandated water commission had directed all industrial units to install waste water treatment plants; while admitting that government assistance would be required on this front.
