Islamabad: The government will announce a comprehensive industrial policy by June 2019, a news source quoted Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood. The new policy aims to create an enabling environment for broad-based industrialisation and encourage innovation in a wide range of sectors.
Dawood, who was accompanied by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis, said the government would share the broad contours of the draft by the end of December or early January.
He said the proposed industrial policy aims to encourage investments in the country, especially in the export-oriented sectors. He added that the focus of the new policy would be to encourage exports from the engineering sector.
Pakistan relies heavily on its textile sector for exports and the adviser said that the textile industry alone cannot help the country enhance its exports to a reasonable good numbers. The government is mulling exporting motorcycles and electronic appliances.
