Islamabad: Implementation agreements for two coal-based power generation projects in Thar were signed at the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB), according to a news report. These agreements were signed to secure financing of USD 1.49 billion to cover the cost of these projects.
These agreements were signed by PPIB Managing Director Shah Jahan Mirza, Lucky Electric Coal Project Director Muhammad Asad, and Siddiqsons Energy Coal Project COO Muhammad Abdul Vakil. On March 7, 2018, the Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs) of both these projects were executed. The Lucky Electric Coal Project will be constructed at Port Qasim, and will generate 660 MW of energy. It will receive USD 1.08 billion for its implementation. The Siddiqsons Energy Coal Project will generate 330 MW of energy and will be located in Thar Block-II. It will receive an investment of USD 410 million. Both of these projects will utilise coal supplied by Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company. Lucky Electric Coal Project is expected to be operational by March 2021, while Siddiqsons Electric Coal Project will start generating energy from June 2021.
