Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday acknowledged the federal government’s recent relief package announcement – worth PKR 1.2 trillion – to curb the spread of COVID-19 across Pakistan, according to news sources.

In its publication ‘Policy Tracker’, the IMF noted the policy response of its 193 member states amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund maintained that both the provincial and federal bodies of Pakistan have responded to this pandemic with a range of effective relief measures in a bid to contain and delay the spread of the virus.

The publication further summarized the lockdown details for major cities and provinces. It also highlights the relief package that includes waiving off import duties on emergency health equipment, PKR 200 billion for relief of daily wagers, PKR 100 billion tax refunds to the export sector and PKR 100 billion to support small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).
