Peshawar: The Pakistan Railways (PR) staff has demolished 49 illegally constructed buildings and structures on its land in Lakki Marwat, reported a news source. PR Divisional Superintendent Nasir Khaleeli gave the orders for the operation, which was headed by PR Special Magistrate Qurat-ul-Ain Wazir and PR Assistant Executive Engineer Muhammad Shabir Awan.

Reportedly, the 54-marlas of commercial land retrieved in the operation had remained under illegal occupation for last 22 years – with the land mafia having constructed restaurants, shops and hotels on it. The estimated market value of the retrieved land is worth over PKR 25 million.

The PR staff used heavy machinery, along with the assistance of PR Police and Lakki Marwat Police, to conduct the operation.
Source within PR say that the department served notices to the owners of shops and restaurants prior to starting the operation. The notice advised them to vacate the land voluntarily, or face legal consequences.
