Gujranwala: The government departments concerned have decided to launch investigations against officials allegedly involved in the illegal construction of commercial plazas, reported a news source. The practice has caused financial losses of over PKR 1 billion to the national exchequer.

In this regard, special branches of the agencies concerned have launched investigations against this mafia. The people responsible for allowing constructions of illegal commercial buildings are, reportedly, political figures and government employees.

The Government of Punjab has gathered data of Gujranwala Corporation’s officials involved in causing financial losses to the national treasury. These officers include members of the Planning and Building Inspection Departments.

Based on the findings of the investigations, the officials found responsible in the practice will face legal consequences; as defined by their respective departments.
It is expected that some of these officials will be arrested soon.
The investigative agencies are also expecting to unearth more scandals of a similar nature. The findings of the investigation will be made public.
