Islamabad: Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has decided to disconnect all illegal water boring pumps and water connections in residential and commercial buildings, according to a news report. This was decided in a meeting of MCI officials headed by Mayor Islamabad Shiekh Ansar Aziz.
The mayor instructed the relevant departments that 7-day notices should be issued to all the illegal connections and boring pumps to have get registered with MCI within this time period. For those who don’t act on the notices, they will be issued a second notice to remove the illegal connection themselves. After that, a comprehensive operation will be conducted to remove the connections and people with illegal connections will be fined PKR 5,000.
Currently, Islamabad has a demand of 120 Million Gallons per Day (MGD). However, it is only receiving 56 MGD because of fewer rains in the past year.
