Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has revealed that the construction work at I.J. Principal Road is progressing at an expedited pace, media sources reported. It was disclosed that the National Logistics Cell (NLC) has started piling work to rehabilitate I.J. Principal Road after the soil test at all four sites was completed. It was mentioned that full-fledged construction work on the project sites will start within a month.

Last month Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking to rehabilitate I.J. Principal road along with two other projects. As per the details, the PKR 4.9 billion project included overhauling of the road and the addition of two lanes on each side for heavy traffic. Furthermore, an interchange will be developed on 9th Avenue and Stadium Road – one of the busiest intersections of I.J Principal Road.
Moreover, a flyover will be constructed at the intersection of Faqir Aipee Road and I.J. Principal Road. A bridge will be built at Katarian stop and another near Sabzi Mandi, Pirwadhai. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.
According to a CDA official, two rigid lanes will be constructed on both sides of the road for heavy traffic. The officer also disclosed that the whole road from Faizabad to Peshawar Road will be renovated. It was also mentioned that the I.J. Principal Road will be transformed into an 8-lane road.

I.J. Principal Road has become an inter-provincial road because of Sabzi Mandi and Pirwadhai Bus Stand. It is a major road for heavy traffic coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Punjab as it connects Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It is pertinent to mention that the road was not designed for heavy traffic, it was initially a principal road that divided Sectors I and J.
