Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday suspended a notification under which the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) had imposed a 200% increase in property taxes in Islamabad, a news source reported. Further, the court has sought replies from both the authorities on the issue; to be submitted during its next hearing.

Previously, Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Muhammad Aslam had filed a petition in the high court against the new policy. He had referred to the MCI and CDA as respondents in his application. The petition was taken up by a single bench of the IHC on Monday. Upon hearing the initial arguments of the issue, the bench decided to suspend the notification of the tax hike until further notice.

Moreover, it prohibited the CDA and the MCI from making tax collection efforts till the announcement of a final decision. The IHC sought a written reply from both the federal institutions within two weeks.
