Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday (June 3) prohibited the Capital Development Authority and the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) from allocating plots on land acquired from local residents until the announcement of the court’s final decision, a news source reported.

To this effect, it further stated that the said authorities could only allot the plots through auction. While hearing the case filed by people evicted from various sectors in Islamabad, the IHC reserved its verdict after listening to the respondents’ arguments on non-payment of remuneration to the original owners.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah expressed displeasure on the CDA’s inability to address the matter that has been pending from the last 6 decades.

The respondent said that for the first time in the CDA history, sincere efforts are being made to address the matter. In response, Justice Minallah stated that the court wanted an end to the elite culture where all the powerful people get the plots while no alternative is given to those from whom land was acquired.

The court had earlier directed the government and the civic authority to act on the recommendations shared by the representatives of the commission formed for this purpose.
