Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has given the federal government two weeks to submit a response regarding the lack of e-commerce facilities in the country — with the directive paving the way for the introduction of Paypal and Amazon services in Pakistan, a news source reported.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah issued notices to both the commerce and information technology ministries, as the government is yet to implement the mandatory requirements of the e-Commerce Policy, 2019.
The said petition states that Pakistan currently does not have access to the largest e-commerce companies in the world, and that these firms had restricted access to Pakistani citizens due to the country’s unsecured payment methods. These flawed payment methods are also the reason why there is a dire need for Paypal in the country.

The petitioner further said that while the global e-commerce industry had expanded to nearly USD 4 trillion, Pakistan had so far been unable to cash in on this development due to government inaction.
