Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday revealed that the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT)-Police would use drones for conducting surveillance and patrolling operations within the city, a news source reported.

To this effect, the minister said that the government would provide the ICT Police with these drones for surveillance, which would conduct mass patrolling operations of the city. According to details shared, this step would not only cut crime rates but allow the police department to save millions spend on annual fuel bill as well. The police could then redirect the funds saved to areas requiring attention.
Talking to journalists, Fawad revealed that the government would soon issue the details of its drone policy. He added that the government also plans to use drones for commercial and agriculture sectors. He highlighted that indigenous drones were fully capable of monitoring farms and performing spraying of crops.

Meanwhile, the minister opined that utilising modern technology would help the authorities concerned uphold the rule of law and maintain order.
