The development followed Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)’s forecast regarding expected rain spells from Tuesday to Thursday in Islamabad. Reportedly, while commenting on the notification No 14(1)-HC(G)/2022-48, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat stated to the media that the Islamabad Administration and Metro Corporation Islamabad (MCI) have already established a control room with dedicated rescue teams, equipment, and heavy gear to deal with any type of scenario. The notice also recommended for societies to hire enough personnel to deal with any eventuality, including floods and rescue.

It also advised that nullahs should be cleared of debris and other obstacles that may obstruct water flow during heavy rains. The societies were told that if the provisions of the letter were not carefully obeyed, serious actions will be taken against them for negligence, and a fine will be imposed. It is worth noting that owing to the blockage of Nullah in E-11 during a rainstorm in July of last year, two people perished and several homes were destroyed.
