Islamabad: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Senior Vice President Tahir Abbasi has urged the government to provide relief to small traders by either waiving off six months’ rent or by paying electricity bills of these establishments with its own resources, according to news sources.

Tahir made these remarks while meeting with the representatives of various trade bodies. He opined that businesses have been adversely affected due to prevailing coronavirus situation in the country, and led to ruin for many businessmen.

During the meeting, ICCI Former Senior Vice President Khalid Chaudhry revealed that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has increased water charges by several hundred times, which is causing great trouble for citizens and traders of the capital amid this pandemic. He asked for a reversal of these increased water bills. Mr Chaudhry also asked the government to reopen restaurants under SOPs and to increase overall business hours.
