Islamabad: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed has urged the federal government to open businesses from April 14 with protective protocols for limited periods daily, a news source reported.

As per the publication, Waheed said that the current lockdown — that is in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic — had affected businesses and industries across the country. He said that this was the reason why Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had approved of the decision to allow the construction sector be opened from April 14. In He added that the district administration had also given a concession to some businesses and allowed them to perform with protective protocols.

The ICCI president said that banks had not relaxed their policies regarding loan instalments and mark up to businesses, and that the banks had also not deferred the payment of loans. He urged the government officials concerned to ensure that bank loans are deferred along with mark up for a few months to save businesses from immense losses.

Waheed further emphasised that the business community should follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government authorities regarding protective protocols so that customers and workers could be saved from the coronavirus infection.
