Islamabad: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) not to take adverse actions against the construction industry, according to a news report. ICCI President Shiekh Amir Waheed said that construction is related to 40 other industries, so the government should solve its problems on priority.
He said this in his welcome address during a visit by Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) officials to ICCI. Speaking on the occasion, ABAD Chairman Arif Jeewa stated that the construction industry is playing a central role in the economy of Pakistan and given the right governmental policies, it could help Pakistan increase its GDP several times.
Mohsin Shaikhani of ABAD said that a small country like Vietnam had increased its exports to more than USD 246 billion while even Bangladesh’s exports had reach USD 30 billion, but Pakistan’s exports were decreasing because of inconsistent policies.
He further said Pakistan has a demand of 800,000 homes each year and the government should cooperate with construction industry and public to resolve this. It should also provide easy loans to public to buy homes.
