Hyderabad: Hyderabad Divisional Commissioner (DC) Nadeem-ur-Rehman on Wednesday (June 22) asked the National Highway Authority (NHA) authorities to complete the land acquisition of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-5). He said that the completion of the motorway is essential to improve the region’s connectivity.

Reportedly, he gave these instructions while presiding over a highway project review meeting and instructed NHA officials to use all available avenues to settle land acquisition issues. He also urged the concerned authorities to handle the land issue with the Forest Department through legal mechanisms to negotiate a mutually advantageous arrangement with the department to begin work. Moreover, he observed that the current road construction work in Matiari and Jamshoro districts is incomplete and urged the relevant authorities to complete the work as soon as possible.

It is worth noting that the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M5) is a 360-kilometre road project worth PKR 191 billion that is planned to be completed in 2.5 years. The project has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). Third-party construction firms will build the project using a built-operate-transfer (BOT) approach under the Public-Private Partnership (3P) model.
