Hyderabad: The city’s drainage system is to be cleaned under the supervision of the Pakistan Army – following the force’s detailed discussion with the district and divisional administrations to this effect, according to a news report published today (August 7).

The authorities made this decision at a meeting held on July 29 at the 18 Division headquarters. Accordingly, the army will supervise the cleaning and desilting operations, while the Hyderabad commissioner’s department and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) would undertake all formalities and contractual obligations.
Reportedly, WASA will finalise the scope of this work, while the Pak Army teams would ensure that the work is carried out in due time, and is to forward the progress reports to the headquarters.

In addition, the payments will be released after approval from the 18 Division headquarters – on the recommendations of the 55-Brigade headquarters. These teams will make their recommendations based on performance and credibility of the relevant contractors under their supervision. This was deemed by Commissioner Abbas Baloch as a great help to the district administration.
