Islamabad: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan on Monday (November 15) disclosed that the government plans to move away 70% of energy production from fossil fuels to hydel-based sources by 2030, according to media reports.

The minister, during his meeting with USA’s Alternative Executive Director to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) John Hurley, appreciated the quick efforts of ADB management for their support for the COVID-19 vaccination drive.
During the meeting, Minister Omar Ayub highlighted the financial and budgetary importance of two ADB-funded programme loans for the capital market and energy sectors. Hurley emphasised the importance of pipeline ADB funded programme loans including the Domestic Resource Mobilisation Programme – which increases the tax base and improve overall revenue collection targets of the country for future debt growth and sustainability.

Moreover, the minister also shed light on the importance of establishing farm to market roads including communication linkages and providing power supply to remote areas to increase the rate of return and market accessibility.
