Lahore: Punjab Police has lodged 856 criminal cases in a province-wide crackdown on illegal housing schemes during the past 2 days on the basis of reference from development authorities, municipal corporations and other government agencies – a news source reported on February 2.

The majority of the cases have been registered against the housing societies that sold away the plots reserved for green areas or playgrounds.
Chairing a meeting, Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani stated that he has issued clear instructions to the police teams for immediate action on references of government agencies in addition to providing them maximum support. A number of these references were years old.

As a part of the crackdown nearly 134 cases have been registered against dozens of developers of illegal housing schemes in Faisalabad on complaints submitted by FDA. Similarly, developers of another 50 housing schemes were also booked in Sahiwal.
