The CDA has been the unfortunate recipient of much criticism lately as the authority finds itself in the eye of the storm of a major financial crisis. The utter lack of professionalism on the part of CDA officials is only part of the problem that surrounds the whole authority, virtually rendering it defunct. The Capital Development Authority is the most important development body of the capital which has been crippled by the controversies that surround it.
The following post deals with some of the issues of CDA and how it can resolve them.
Dealing with corruption
Corruption, of late, has been the number one problem of several institutions of the state. Under the aegis of the sitting government, corruption has broken all previous records. Several of CDA officials are facing investigations in this regard from Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
What CDA can do to curb this problem is to first make stringent laws and bylaws against corruption and then adhere to them strictly. Keeping check and balance can significantly reduce the problem.
Sorting cases in the Supreme Court
There are some five hundred plus cases filed against the CDA in different courts. When half the staff of the authority spends their month going back and forth for the hearings, there could hardly be any work done. With so many cases and so many hearings, the machinery of the CDA is paralysed in a way that it has not been able to work as it’s supposed to.
CDA should try and request the courts to resolve cases against it on an urgent basis. CDA too should cooperate with the courts and work on solving the cases with the best of intensions.
Sacking elements abetting land mafia
A few of the several allegations against the CDA point towards the fact that there are elements within the CDA which are working to benefit land mafia by stalling, halting and delaying projects on purpose so as to bring the value of the property down for private housing societies so that later, they can sell it at a higher price.
This is a grave crime and should be dealt with an iron hand. Chairman of the CDA should personally investigate the matter himself and sack all officers found guilty of abetting such criminal elements. Making an example of the culprits could help nip the problem in the bud.
