Islamabad: The Sanday Mar Dam, located in the federal capital territory, has been identified for its role in consistently polluting Sectors E-16 and E-17, and the Tarnol area – causing serious agricultural and fishing hurdles, according to news sources.

As per reports, the drainage of untreated wastewater in the natural stream of Sanday Mar Dam has turned into a major environmental disaster and a health hazard.
The executive engineer of Small Dams Division Islamabad of the Small Dams Organisation, Irrigation Department, Punjab has written letters to the two cooperative housing societies located in the said sectors and to the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA); urging them to stop the practice and save natural resources. The letters further directed for serious measures to preserve the natural creek and streams to avoid strict actions.

An official revealed that since the CDA approved these housing societies under conditions that the societies must have their own sewerage treatment plants. The water of the dam issued for land irrigation and fisheries and untreated water’s seepages into the Sanday Mar Dam has also affected the underground drinkable water sources of the adjoining areas.
