Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday (February 10) disclosed that more than 70,000 housing projects, worth PKR 1.4 trillion have been approved to trigger the construction industry, according to media reports.

PM Khan chaired a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Housing, Construction and Development. He apprised that the approved housing projects will have an impact on the construction of PKR 7.3 trillion and will create 1.2 million jobs. Moreover, the premier stated that out of 80,000 applications, 35,420 have been approved, which is a huge achievement of the government. He added that the PKR 46 billion has been disbursed to 13,407 applicants.

The prime minister further added that a 148% increase was seen in housing finance in the last three years. It is expected that PKR 517 billion will be approved by December. Reportedly, 161,924 housing units have been approved since 2018, out of which 20,898 has been completed while 45,191 units are constructed. During the meeting, PM Khan was directed to speed up the pace of work so the projects can be completed within a stipulated time and take steps to ease the process for low-cost housing projects.
