As per the details, the Revenue and Field Officers will review the record and create a new list of the illegal housing projects operating without the permission of the authorities. The authorities have integrated a 2-tier approval process for private housing schemes that include the issuance of NOC and approval after submitting the layout plan. It was disclosed that the process includes 19 major and 29 intermediate steps.
Moreover, the NOC approval by the civic agency takes up to 2.5 years. After the approval of NOC, the development work can be started and can take up to two decades to be complete. In the last few decades, the government has not introduced new residential sectors, which has encouraged the private sector to cater to the rising housing demand in the city.
According to an official of the district administration (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that once the list is prepared, the illegal housing societies will have to stop all development work or strict legal action will be taken against them. He further added that the administration has devised a mechanism that helps people check the legal status of the housing projects before investing.

It is pertinent to note that in July 2021, the authorities declared 140 private and cooperative housing schemes illegal since these lacked approvals because of the non-submission of NOC and layout plans.
