Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) council on Thursday approved a surplus budget for the (fiscal year) FY2019-20, a news source reported. Acting Mayor Syed Suhail Mehmood Mashhadi presented the budget during a session attended by all the office-bearers of the civic agency.

For the current financial year, the HMC’s expenditures are estimated at PKR 2.922 billion, out of which it has allocated PKR 1.82 billion for paying the liabilities (including pensions and salaries) of its employees. Similarly, funds worth PKR 430 million have been allocated for the maintenance of HMC vehicles and streetlights.
Moreover, the corporation has earmarked PKR 20 million for launching disaster management initiatives and PKR 424.8 million for carrying out restoration work on HMC’s Jinnah Hall, graveyards, as well as developing a bus stand.

The acting mayor stressed on the need for establishing new slaughterhouses, including meat and fish markets, in order to ensure proper disposal of animal wastes. For this purpose, he sought financial assistance from the Sindh government.
