Islamabad: The government has decided to expand its ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ campaign by including national highways and motorways in this environmental initiative – a news source reported.

An agreement to this effect was signed between the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Climate Change. Under the ‘Apni Shahrah’ campaign, trees will be planted along all major road networks across the country.
The government is seeking assistance from the private sector for this project. The communications ministry will identify the sites for planting saplings, and these will be maintained on a regular basis.

Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed said that the programme is aimed at protecting and conserving the environment. He added that the government is taking pragmatic steps to address the country’s environmental concerns.
