Islamabad: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Captain Noor ul Amin Mengal has ordered the owners of old buildings to construct emergency stairs within six months or strict action will be launched against them, according to news published on April 18.

The CDA chairman issued these instructions while in a meeting with owners and representatives of housing projects and highrises in Islamabad on Monday. Mengal also gave a deadline of six months to the owners of highrises in Islamabad to construct emergency stairs. These stairs should be developed outside the building’s console of all projects having four or mre storeys in Islamabad. He also said that all new structures should also include these stairs. He was of the view that open space should also be left at the front and back of the buildings for parking as per the plots’ sizes.

The CDA chief also assured that the relevant departments have been instructed to approve the building plans within 15 days of the document submission. He said that a meeting of the design vetting committee will be held each week to facilitate the builders. It was also announced that an express counter will be set up at one window cell for the one-day transfer of the properties. The authority is improving inter-departmental coordination to streamline the processes, he added.
