Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) recently launched a drive against illegal connections in 13 districts and disconnected 6,545 illegal connections, a news source reported.

As per the publication, an HESCO spokesperson on Monday notified that the authority had decided to cut connections in the Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, and Hyderabad divisions. He further revealed that the company’s officials had also filed FIRs against those who had set up the said illegal connections. He added that the HESCO’s CEO had also directed the officials concerned to take action against those staff members that were involved in power theft.

The spokesperson said that the drive had been conducted as a part of the efforts to keep a check on electric transformers and avoid excessive load that could damage them and cause power outages. He further added that HESCO had severed 493 connections in Badin, 539 in Hyderabad, 325 in Umerkot, 423 in Sanghar, 426 in Thatta, 581 in Nawabshah, 361 in Tando Muhammad Khan, and 359 in Tando Allahyar.
